Bile Collection System - the BICC's

 

The BICC's, a totally subcutaneously implanted T-Tube Occluder system uses a balloon mechanism for the sampling and collection of the total voume of bile over an extended period. Available with 2 or 3 legs, in a variety of catheter and port sizes, it can be used in a variety of species including dogs and non-human primates.

BICCs system

 

The 3 Leg BICC's Bile Collection System includes an additional vascular access port with a 5 or 7 French silicone catheter that is used solely for flushing.

After cannulation of the bile duct the T-Tube catheter is placed in the common bile duct and the catheter legs ( 2 or 3) are tunneled subcutaneously and attached to the access ports.

 

For bile collection, insert a Huber needle into the access port attached to the balloon catheter and infuse a hypertonic solution. The balloon in the T-Tube inflates and closes off bile flow to the duodenum. The bile is diverted and collected by inserting the Huber sampling set (BICRA20-75) attached to the vacuum collection bulb (BIC-CB100) into the access port of the sampling catheter. When collection is complete, the hypertonic solution is removed, the balloon collapses and bile flow to the duodenum is restored.
